My old bike was a rockhopper 26, and now I have a Epic Comp 29. I jumped like 4 levels. So I can't compare. However, I was researching other brands, and for this price including the offer Megacycle did, I think I got the best bike I can. It is incredible the change in rough terrains. My only complain, is that I miss Shimano in my rear derailleur. Shift speeds is noisy and I think it takes more time. Maybe need an adjustment because I can't reach the last speed.
I've had this bike for almost 2 years, and can't say enough good things about it. For the price, it's a very durable, light and easy to ride bike. It's fantastic for all mountian biking conditions.
I have had this bike for 18 months. It has become my single go-to bike. Go from almost hardtail to cushy with three clicks on the knob. Hugs the dirt, wish the tires were more aggressive (these are rolling tires) but thats no big deal;definitely recommend; unbelievably light and manouverable
Sizing on these is finicky so have Sprockets fit it. Go tubeless. Get a crossbar thing if you plan to transport it on a BONES rack. Suspension is easy enough to set up and maintain that a noobie feels confident. Then... prepare for the ride of your life. This baby hugs the trail and flies like a roller coaster. Try- just try- to wipe that smile off your face.
I change breaks out
A great all around mountainbike. It does nearly everything well. Pretty light at 27.5 lbs. (large size). I think it is the bargain buy of the cross country line.
I have had countless Specialized bikes for the family but my Personal bikes 06' Epic, 10' Epic and my newest 2013 EPIC Comp with Carbon Control wheels! Specialized just keeps getting better and better! Each one of my Epics has been problem free and just when you think you can't get better than this I am proven wrong! The autosag is great and the ride is even better. My New Years resolution this year was to become a better rider. At 48 I just did thanks to to the EPIC!
After the first 5 minutes I said "Wow" out loud to myself. By the end of that first ride (some 1.5 hours later) the smile was etched into my face. This bike is that good! It does everything amazing well and has no weaknesses at all. I rode an Enduro for the past 4 years and still have it. I recently purchased a 29 Stumpy hardtail and really like it, but wanted more rear end comfort. The Epic 29 is truely the best of both worlds. I love to climb and this bike works so well that you'd think a motor was attached. I also race motocross, so going downhill fast is something that comes very easily. The Epic handles the decents surprising well. The bottom-line is that this bike will make you a better rider if you so desire and makes training way more fun!
I picked up the Epic 29'er to upgrade from a 26" bike and wanted something with a good suspension design. Vertually no pedal bob when climbing and handles corners very well. For the money its a fairly light bike and fast. My only complaint is the roval wheelset. I've only had the bike for a few months and the rear wheel has broke twice. Cassette body once and now the axle bearings. For this price you think Specialized would give you descent wheels.
